It is in times of distress that hope is truly found. How you handle those periods of duress is a mark of character. Whether you're the one in pain, providing sanctuary, or even if that ache is mutual, hurt/comfort is all about empathy. Connecting with the people around you.

Instructions:

→ Post with your character (note name, canon [if relevant], and preferences in the subject line).

Options:

o1. injury: somehow, you've been injured. the severity, whether a mortal wound or "just a scrape" is up to you.
o2. sickness: thinking of calling out of work today? chances are you've got a common bug...or worse.
o3. fear & anxiety: careful where you throw that "scared to death" nonsense...it might just be an omen.
o4. loss of senses: you're missing one of those fundamental six senses, whether it's your sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste, or the Force.
o5. despair: the idea of hope looks more and more like a pipe dream right now.
o6. breakup: and we are never ever ever ever getting back together. ever.
o7. makeup: but you called me up again tonight...
o8. rescued: it's time for one of you to get your damsel in distress on.
o9. bad romance: i knew you were trouble when you walked in.
1o. loss: one of you has just experienced a loss of some kind; can you cope?
11. insanity: for whatever reason, "reason" is lost to you. you're seeing and hearing things. sometimes dead people.
12. tired/insomnia: is it the caffeine or the fact that you never leave your damned senatorial office? whether it's just lack of sleep or lack of energy, this exhaustion is bone-deep.
13. addiction: something's got you hooked, and you might just need a helping hand to give it some distance.
14. nightmares: okay, now you're definitely seeing dead people. do you dare go back to sleep?
15. blackmail: you've been caught and the evidence is compromising. do you seek help or vengeance?
16. separation/homesickness: whatever it is, the nostalgia's got you missing something (or someone) awfully.
17. betrayal: your trust has been violated, but is it a real or imagined slight?
18. stranded: you're stuck. maybe someone crashed your only ship for the 50th damn time. are you sure this isn't reality tv?
19. sins & guilt: the weight of your past deeds is like holding a world on your shoulders. maybe it's time to seek some help, atlas.
2o. secret: loose lips sink spaceships.
21. wildcard: "take your script and shove it, meme."

["Meeting," of course, being entirely colloquial, said as if she hadn't picked her way through this winding Imperial facility with the express purpose of finding Baze. Her friend. (It's still a peculiar sentiment that tugs at something she can't quite describe, in a way that her mother would have told her was the Force speaking to her despite them both knowing that it only worked that way for Jedi--and now, for no one.)

Jyn cracks a brave half smile, dangling the keycard she'd swiped to "force" the door open from a hooked finger and nods back down the way she'd come.]

Coast should be mostly clear. Unless you wanted to stay?

[If he never had to leave Alderaan's atmosphere again, Bail is fairly sure he would be perfectly content. Leaving is always punctuated with some bittersweet pang of longing for home, but it's even worse now that the Capitol has begun its shift from a Republic on its death bed to the horrifying birth of an Empire.

It's shocking in how easy it is, that shift from one bureaucratic form to another, and horrifying still in the realization that the true foundation for this change had been laid years prior to its inception.

The only change, it seems, is in how useless he feels to stop it. Or even that tireless dedication to the Republic's security feeling completely and utterly hopeless. That is, he's realized, exactly what the Empire wants him to think, which is precisely why his senatorial routine doesn't change.

But some days, that longing for some semblance of reason is so strong that not even duty and keep him away from the hyperspace lanes that will, without fail, carry him home. Today is one such day, and the pull is so strong that he does even bother to give notice first. The most Bail had thought to do between thoughts of Breha's name over, and over again had been to cancel his appointments remotely. He doesn't even give an excuse.

It's only when he's regaining his balance on the floor of the landing pad does he stop to think that maybe he should have at least indicated that the rush carried no inkling of emergency. Just need.]

[To say that Breha is worried is... putting it mildly. It’s intense and distracting, and has been since she’d received word that Bail had cancelled his appointments. Added to the fact that she hasn’t heard from him... she’s worried and fearful and bordering just a little on frantic. Not that that’s outwardly evident. No, she’s had far too much practice at maintaining her composure to let it slip.

She dressed with no indication of her worry, although she unconsciously chooses one of Bail’s favourite dresses. And when she realised it, blushed in the solitude of their bed chambers and added to it the necklace he’d given her on their second anniversary before attending to the matters of state that would fill her day.

But if she ends her current meeting abruptly when news of Bail’s impending arrival reaches her, well, they will simply have to forgive her. Somehow she manages to refrain from rushing until the door closes behind her. And then she’s giving in and dashing off, her only thought getting to the landing pad.

Getting to Bail.

Seeing him, hale and unharmed, standing there on the landing pad is a relief. He’s all right. Whatever’s wrong, whatever’s brought him back, brought him home, he’s all right. Everything else they can handle. Together. She closes the distance between them, reaching for him.]

[In that meeting is palpable relief, both in that these unspoken, unknown worries are wrong, and in that he doesn't have to look too hard to find exactly what he wants. He's all too happy to find himself in that embrace, his arms reaching and closing around her in kind. He leans in to find that nook against his collar bone, and it's only then that he finally allows his shoulders to drop. For a long moment, that's where he stays, contented in an embrace that makes the rest of the galaxy fall away.]

I missed you.

[It sounds so ridiculous in his own ears as his explanation finally drops, as if it was too obvious and not an excuse all at once. Maybe it's both. Maybe it doesn't matter. He's reluctant to pull away for a longer moment still.

Nothing's happened, he thinks to say. Wants to. But the words don't form in that solace. Because plenty has happened. The both know that. The little girl they call "daughter" is perfect proof. And whatever this is, this overwhelming need, it's not "nothing" either. He simply lacks the words for it beyond that simple, too-honest confession. For now, it will have to do.]

[No, he doesn't want to stay, but he's also not going to be defenseless here. It's also about as much of a "I'm glad to see you" as anyone gets. But hey. Words are good. Words mean "yes, I care to speak with you for more than monosyllables".]
